How to Send Files
to Synergistech's FTP Site
The simplest and most reliable way to send us your formatted files
(resumes, online portfolio samples, etc.) is to upload them to our anonymous
FTP site
ftp.synergistech.com
If the above link appears not to work, simply click your Refresh button once. Now, log in as username "public" with password "public" (in Internet Explorer, use File -> Login As). Finally, just drag the file(s) you wish to upload into your browser window. Please follow up by sending us email to indicate which files you've sent and (unless it's obvious) what format they're in. We'll reply to confirm that we've received them.
If you'd like to access our FTP site the old-fashioned way, we've included complete instructions here. Please don't hesitate to contact us by email at pubpros@synergistech.com if you have any difficulties.
Before you upload files, please remember to:
- Give each file you want to send a meaningful name, preferably no more than
8 characters followed by a 3-character extension. Don't include spaces in the files' names.
- Use a mainstream file format, such as Microsoft Word, FrameMaker, or HTML,
if possible.
- Transfer the file in Binary or, for Macintosh users, "Raw" mode. (This
is the default setting if you're using a web browser to transfer files.)
How to Access Synergistech's
FTP
Site
- Use your command line or favorite FTP (File Transfer Protocol) tool
to connect with "ftp.synergistech.com".
If you only have access to a shell account (with a plain
command line), type "ftp ftp.synergistech.com" from the prompt.
- When prompted for your user name, enter "public" and press Enter.
- When prompted for your password, enter "public" again and press Enter.
- To upload a file, first open the 'incoming' directory — it's the only
one into which you'll be able to write your files.
From a shell account, type "cd ftp/incoming" to enter that
directory.
- If you have a choice with respect to the mode in which you send a file,
choose "Binary" or "Raw." Be careful not to select ASCII or MacBinary.
From a shell account, type "binary" or "bin" and press
Enter.
- On your local machine, select the name of the files you want to send and
use your Internet Service Provider's "upload file" command to initiate
the transfer. With most graphical tools, you should be able to simply click on
an arrow icon.
From a shell account, enter "put [pathname]"
where pathname is the directory in which the file is located (if other
than the one from which you began running FTP).
- You'll see a progress report as the file is transferred, and a message
that the transfer has been completed if all goes as it should.
Note: Files are visible once uploaded to the incoming directory, but you will not be able to delete them.
- Exit your FTP utility.
From a shell account, type "bye".
- Remember to email us the
names of the files you've uploaded and their formats.
